Shawn Ziluck

Shawn comes to Cherokee Creek from an impressive Naval career that combined medical and psychiatric experience, leadership, and mentorship. He also is the recipient of several distinguished awards, including a Navy Commendation Medal and a Navy Achievement Medal. Most recently he was stationed at the Naval Medical Center, in Portsmouth, Virginia where he worked as a Hospital Corpsman, Second Class-Neuropsychiatric Technician. At the Medical Center he managed the Outpatient Cognitive Intervention Program, facilitated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy groups and led classes on communication skills, assertiveness, and stress management. Shawn also conducted training for Doctors, Nurses and paraprofessionals in Non Violent Crisis Intervention techniques. Shawn served in Iraq as a Field Medical Technician - for the 2nd Field Service Support Group, Combat Logistics Battalion. In Iraq, he supervised Junior Sailors and Marines in conducting medical support during combat operations, and stress management classes. Prior to his service in Iraq he worked at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he provided medical care to service members and their families in a post surgical setting.
According to Shawn, his military service was helpful prepared for his role as primary counselor. "The Navy taught me about responsibility, integrity, leadership, respect, compassion, courage, commitment and a strong sense of self, all of which are important qualities for a young man to have and for our students to develop. It is an incredible feeling to be a part of Cherokee Creek, where we are helping our students grow emotionally, academically and socially. Shawn's education includes attendance at the Naval School of Health Sciences, Neuropsychiatric Technician School, Naval Field Medical Service School, Hospital Corpsman Basic School and The Naval Leadership course.

Shawn was raised in Wappingers Falls, New York were he lived until joining the Navy. He now lives in Walhalla, South Carolina with his wife Laura and two children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, swimming, reading, and watching football.
